Government Directive of Cessation of Issuance of Birth Certificates in the Volta Region – Our Rights Are Indefeasible
The Anlo Youth Council (AYC) has sighted a government directive communicating cessation of the issuance of Birth Certificates in the Volta Region. The Council, through its independent checks from district offices of the Birth and Death Registry across the region, could confirm that the government directive is in full effect.
The Council finds this disposition of government discriminatory and detestable as the directive deprives indigenes of the region their indefeasible rights and access to government services. Forty-Eight (48) years after the popular Sallah vs Attorney General case, the executive government is least expected to conduct itself in such discriminatory manner as we now witness from the current executive government.
The Council is encouraging anyone affected by such arbitrary transfers within the public service or denial of government services flowing from the government directive to make contacts with the council via its messenger inbox as the council prepares its legal team to restore sanity and sanctity in the provision of government services in the Volta Region.
